What's the best current budget video card for gaming?

i'm planning on building a $1000 or less gaming pc (preferably 700 to $800)|||9800gt is a good inexpensive card will do almost anything you want|||i would say the ati 4850 you can pick one up for like 80-100 bucks on ebay and they kick ***!|||Except that the GTS 250 > HD 4850..

It really depends on how much you want to spend.

I would say that if you are building a new rig, that any 512mb card or 1gb/256 card is med range.

If you do want a 1gb/256, I would go with a HD 4870, which is around 150$

But the next level cards beat it by far:

GTX 260 896mb/448mb for 160$-180$

GTX 275 1792/448mb for around 250$

GTX 280 1gb/512mb for around 230$

GTS 285 2gb/512mb for around 400$

So, it really depends on how much you are spending on other parts. The 275 has a lot of good reviews and performance.
