Best video card for me?

Hi, I have an NVIDIA Geforce4 MX Integrated GPU. I am looking to buy a video card that will work without any problems for the latest downloadable games. My current one cannot even show their graphics.

My computer is a Windows XP Home Edition 2002, if that helps any. The power supply's Max output is: 250w. If you need any more information I'll edit this question and add it. Thank you for your help!|||Need more info. Basically we need to know what slot you have available to put a graphics card into, this will determine what cards you can buy, and then we will be able to tell you which is the best for your purpose.

If you know what PCI, AGP, and PCI-Express slots look like, then just take the side off the case and tell us. If not, you could open the side and take a photo to post here. Or if you know the make and model of the motherboard, we can google it and find out that way. Or you can run a program like "Everest Home Edition" which will tell you everything about your computer's specification.

Choose your poison.

Also, you should probably specify exactly what games you want to play. You say "the latest downloadable games", if you mean the very latest games like HalfLife2, Call of Duty 4, etc (the kind of graphics-heavy games you get on Xbox 360 or PS3), then you will most likely need a whole new computer. If you mean Flash-based games that you play in your web-browser, then you should be fine with your GeForce, you just need the right plug-ins (software). if you mean anything inbetween, then you should be good with just a new graphics card. Also, you do not need a new power supply.

Perfect! That's all the info we need. For those two games you listed (according to the wikipedia system requirements) you don't need an especially good card, almost any AGP card should be good. It kind of depends on how much you want to spend, I'll give you a few options;

£20 - GeForce FX5200

£50 - GeForce 7600GT

£90 -ATI X1650 Pro

That last one might need a new power supply, though you could try it with your old one first, nothing to lose, the other two will be fine with your current one. The more you spend, the better games you'll be able to play, if you literally only want to play games like the ones you listed, then just get the cheapest one. The last one will be able to play fancy-pants games that came out more than a year ago, eg. GTA San Andreas, Halo 2, Unreal Tournament 2004.|||You have to know what type of graphics interface your computer has. Send out the maker / model number and we can find out. For anything beyond a low-dollar upgrade, you will also need to upgrade your power supply to 400-450 watt.

From the fact that your source is only 250w and the video is integrated i guess you have an old (really old!) socket A Athlon on a NForce2 motherboard. Simply put it, your pc is too old to play any games newer than 2 years. Buy a new one.|||get more power supply and buy an 8600 GT
