Would a Pentium d 940 3.2ghz be good for gaming if i had a good video card and a lot of ram?

i am upgrading my computer to make it better for gamming. i want to know if the Pentium d 340 is good for games. i know the core duo is better but i don't have the money for it. i don't need to be able to play the best games just good ones. I figure if this core is running at 3.2 thats all i should need. i have never seen a game with a procesor requirment higher then that.|||If you use an insanely good video card (8800GTX or faster) it will be bottlenecked by your processor, but if you could afford a video card like that, you'd get a cheaper video card and a faster processor. But yeah, you should be okay. Make sure you get a C2D compatable mobo, so you can upgrade later, because if you get a good video card, and 2GB RAM, the first thing you're gonna need to upgrade will be the processor.|||Yes Proc is fine but for gaming lots of ram and a good video card would help alot, and i mean alot.|||You can try, i think you wont have a problem...|||Yes that would make a good machine if it's paired with a good video card and about 2GB of RAM. The bottlenece nowadays is on the video processing and not on the CPU processing. Go to http://www.tomshardware.com/graphics/ for video cards reviews.|||True, there are no games with a faster processor requirement.

But keep in mind that Clock speed is not the only factor in performance.

For example, the 1.8ghz Core 2 Duo is faster than your 3.2ghz Pentium D and it is NOT because it has two cores.|||yes its good! but the most important thing is your graphics card! Also you should have 1GB - 2 GB (or more you can never have enough RAM),as well!|||I have a Pent 4 at 3 ghz 1gb ram and 512mb ati card.

I can run FEAR or Halo maxed out at 60hz refresh rate.

Also have a 42in HDTV as a monitor which helps until I want to move it.|||i don't see how are you going to have a problem...
