Should I get a new video card and more ram for my existingPC or shold i get a new gaming pc?

These days their are a lot of new games wich require a certian model video card and a minimum ammount of ram ect. Now for a game like Oblivion for example, would it be more practical both by cost and speed to get a new gaming computer or would buying a new and inmproved video card and more ram for my existing computer (Windows XP Home Edition SP 2) or saving towards a new gaming computer? If you think it would be best to go get a differnt video card and more ram then wat card would you recomend for a game like oblivion? Or if you think the only way for good gameplay is getting a gaming computer then perhaps recomend one? Many thanks. My computers a packard bell and i live in the U.K if that helps at all|||You could get more RAM, this will definitley increase your computer's performance.

But to speed up your computer and free up space and memory for free:

Go to the Start Menu> Run

Type in "appwiz.cpl"

Uninstall whatever you don't need.

Next, go to Start Menu> Run again and type in "msconfig".

Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck everything you don't want to startup. If you want, you can uncheck everything, and your anti-virus will still restart itself when you log on.

You could also try installing CCleaner, it will get rid of alot of temporary files on your computer. It also has a registry repair system, which is easily the best free one available on the Internet:

Another option is to try defragmenting your computer.

Go to the Start Menu and go to All Programs

Go to Accessories and System Tools.

Choose Disk Defragmenter and when it loads click defragment.

One final thing I would say is to compress your files if you already haven't.

Open My Computer and right click on your hard drive

Check the Compress Drive button and let it do it's thing.

These are short-term solutions however. the easiest way is to just upgrade the RAM on your system, but at least the ways above are free.

If you need an anti-virus, download AVG 8 Anti-virus:

And for spyware, get SpyBot - Search and Destroy:

Both are free, as powerful as paid programs, such as Norton and McAfee, and don't use up too many resources.

Good Luck.|||Oh lord. Packard bell, you say? I'm not from England, but I remember the ghastly rubbish they used to pedddle to families on my side of the channel. It finally caught up to them and PBs haven't been sold in the US for about the last ten years.

You need to post your full specifications including motherboard model or features first, but I'm inclined to think you should head over to a site like Overclockers and start designing..

Sis Chipset? "No future, no future, there's no future "for your PC), and you're dreaming," Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyways, SiS chipsets are mediocre these days, and that thing will asuredly not hold a modern Core 2 Duo chip. The 512MB of RAM i9s meagre for current gaming. These days, it's iGB minimum, and two-four as budgets allow. Alas. you proibably need the older and more expensive DDR-1 RAM. Assuming you're still rocking the SiS onboard, you're also crying for an upgrade there too. One can buy an AGP Radeon HD3850 for 130$ US, which unfortunatelly means it probably costs at least a hundrede quid plus VAT ijn the UK. The power supply would undoubtedly need replacement for such a video card, too, at whick point, I start thinking, why not ditch the assuredly cheap Packard Bell case, at which point nothing but the hard disk and optical drives looks useful.

I say you sell the old and buy orr build a new computer. The other one is just too old and limited at this point for serious gaming, and cheap store-bought computers rarely make good foundations even when new.|||if your desktop can still accommodate the latest technology in video cards and ram. then you don't have to buy a new computer. what you need here is your motherboard model. or at least your computer model. you need to know if your video card slot is at least a pci-express and your ram slot to be at least a ddr2 slot. if not, then you really have to think of buying a new computer if you want to run the latest games.

if you are unsure of your components, download cpu-z here to scan your computer: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
